US Open: Sania Mirza Advances, Leander Paes' Campaign Ends

New York: It was a great day for Sania Mirza as she made it to the quarter-finals of women's doubles and the semi-final of mixed doubles at the US Open tennis event here.

But it was the end of the road for both Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna at the tennis event. (Djokovic, Murray Book Quarter-Final Showdown)

The top seeded pair of Sania and Bruno Soares made it to the semi-final of the mixed doubles with a 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 win over the sixth seeded pair of Bopanna and Katarina Srebotnik in the quarter-finals Monday.

In the women's doubles, Sania and Cara Black, seeded third, won their third round match against Jelena Jankovic and Klara Koukalova 6-3, 6-2. (Bouchard Ousted, Serena Advances)

Meanwhile, Paes lost both his men's doubles and mixed doubles encounters.

Paes and his Czech partner Radek Stepanek, seeded sixth, went down 2-6, 6-4, 1-6 to the 11th seeded pair of Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez in the third round of men's doubles.

In the mixed doubles, Paes and Cara, seeded third, lost 4-6, 6-4, 8-10, to Abigail Spears and Santiago Gonzalez in the quarter-finals.

The Islamic State group has beheaded Steven Joel Sotloff

The Islamic State group has beheaded Steven Joel Sotloff, the second American executed by the Islamic militant group, and posted a video of it on the Internet, the SITE Intelligence group, a research organization that tracks jihadist web postings, said Tuesday.

The execution of Sotloff, 31, came despite pleas from his mother aimed directly at the Islamic State's top leader seeking mercy for her son, a freelance journalist who was captured in northern Syria a year ago.

Word of Sotloff's beheading came two weeks after James Foley, 45, another American journalist, was beheaded by the Islamic State group, which warned back then that Sotloff
 would be the next to die.

In the latest video, Sotloff describes himself as "paying the price" for the Obama administration's decision to strike Islamic State targets in Iraq. The same masked fighter who appeared in the Foley beheading also appears beside Sotloff, asserting, "I'm back, Obama, and I'm back because of your arrogant foreign policy towards the Islamic State."

The SITE Intelligence Group also said the Islamic State group was threatening a third captive, a Briton it identified David Cawthorne Haines, as the next beheading victim.

At least two other Americans are believed to be held by the Islamic State group.

 மங்கள்யான் விண்கலம் தனது பயணத்தை 300 நாட்கள் நிறைவு செய்து உள்ளது. இன்னும் 23  நாட்களில் விண்கலம் செவ்வாய் கிரக சுற்றுவட்ட பாதையை சென்றடையும். விண்கலம் நல்ல நிலையில் உள்ளது.

இது குறித்து இஸ்ரோ இணையதளத்தில்  விண்கலம்  பூமியில் இருந்து 1990 லட்சம் கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் உள்ளது.விண்கலம் நல்ல நிலையில் உள்ளது. தற்போது விண்கலம்  வினாடிக்கு 22.33 கிலோமீட்டர் வேகத்தில் பயணம் செய்கிறது.என கூறபட்டு உள்ளது
