S.C. student arrested after stealing and posting teacher's nude selfie, police say

CHARLESTON, S.C. — A high school student who went through his teacher's cellphone, found a nude picture of her and posted it online has been charged with a computer crime and voyeurism, authorities said Friday. Union Public Safety Department Chief Sam White said the student, who is being charged as a juvenile, was taken into custody at Union High School without incident.

The 16-year-old is charged with a count of violating the state's computer crime act in the second degree and a count of aggravated voyeurism. He is being held in juvenile detention for a hearing in family court. There have been no other arrests, but the investigation is continuing, the chief said.

Officials say it's not clear how many people may have seen the social media postings of the photo. The teacher, Leigh Anne Arthur, has quit her job teaching mechanical and electrical engineering and computer programming at the school's vocational center.

Arthur, 33, told police on Feb. 18 that while she stepped out of her classroom, a boy took her unlocked smartphone from her desk, opened the photos application and found a nude selfie she had taken for her husband as a Valentine's Day present.

An online petition has been started, urging school district officials in the community in northwestern South Carolina to give Arthur her job back. The superintendent has said it was the teacher's fault for leaving students unattended during a four-minute break between classes. The Associated Press left a phone message with Arthur on Friday seeking comment on the arrest.

The voyeurism charge makes it illegal, for the purpose of sexual gratification, to record or make a digital file of another person without his or her consent. The computer crimes charge makes it illegal to take possession or deprive the owner of a computer of computer data. Both charges are misdemeanors for a first offense. But if the teen is convicted on both counts he could be sentenced to a maximum fine of $10,500 and four years in prison.

Afridi best choice for T20 skipper, says Waseem Akram

KARACHI: Former Pakistan skipper Waseem Akram has stated that green shirts should opt to stay out of the World Twenty20, scheduled from March 08, if there is a security risk in India.

Waseem Akram was talking to media here on Saturday. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister had asked the BCCI to either cancel the proposed India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match slated for March 19 at Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh or shift the venue to any other city.

Commenting on poor performance of Pakistan in the Asia Cup, the former pacer said that the team lost because there was no planning during the matches. Waseem agreed to Waqar Younis’ claim that the head coach should be included in the selection team.

He said that the World Cup was just around the corner and the team was being criticized for its performance on television every day. “Cricket pundits and senior players should instead be boosting the team’s moral.” He said that the selectors were thinking of reshuffling the team but now it was too late.

In the current circumstances Shahid Afridi was the best choice for T20 team captain, he said. He added that the umpiring in the Asia Cup held at Dhaka lacked clarity. “I saw the worst umpiring of my life in the Asia Cup.”

Congress nominates AK Antony for Rajya Sabha election from Kerala

Former Defence Minister A K Antony will be the Congress candidate from Kerala for Rajya Sabha elections to be held on March 21. For the Congress Working Committee member from Kerala, it would be the third consecutive term in the Upper House. He had been a member of the RS since 2005. Prior to that, Antony had been RS member from 1993 to 1995.

Congress state president, V M Sudheeran, on Saturday said the party has decided to field Antony as the candidate for RS elections. Only his name would be recommended to the high command, said Sudheeran.

In Kerala, three RS seats are falling vacant this month. Of them, Congress can win from two seats and the CPI (M) from the third. The term of Antony and CPI (M)’s K N Balagopal and T N Seema would end this month.

While Congress has decided to allot one seat to Antony, another seat would go to JD(U) state president, M P Veerendra Kumar. Congress handed over its second seat to JD(U) in a bid to retain that party in the United Democratic Front. Kumar had a strained relation with Congress after he lost the Lok Sabha elections in 2014. A probe report had found that Congress spoiled his chances in Palakkad constituency.

Asia Cup: Pakistan loyal fan harassed in Bangladesh after loss

Mumbai: Team India treats Pakistan cricket fan Mohammad Bashir with respect. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni even handed him tickets for the Asia Cup match against Pakistan. But he didn’t receive the same behaviour from the people in Bangladesh.

Read: MS Dhoni provides ticket to Pakistan fan Mohammed Bashir. There are allegations that Bashir was forced to wear the Bangladesh flag after his team’s loss to Pakistan in Mirpur Wednesday. The photographs that emerged on Facebook confirm Bashir’s vulnerable situation in front of Elias Uddin Mollah – a political figure in Bangladesh’s ruling Awami League.

Bashir — who travels around the world with the Pakistan cricket team — was reduced to tears. According to reports, Mollah urged spectators to wrap Bangladesh’s flag around Bashir. Bashir could not do much there and had to abide by it.

Lucky Akhter, a Bangladesh student, called the incident a criminal offence on social media. Sudhir Gautam, the Indian cricket fan who follows the Men in Blue, also faced harassment during India’s last tour of Bangladesh.

We can beat India and win Asia Cup, says Tamim Iqbal

Mirpur: Senior Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal says his side is good enough to upstage formidable India and lift the Asia Cup trophy when the two teams clash on Sunday. Tamim has fond memories of matches against India and no one can forget the six that he hit off Zaheer Khan during their upset victory during the 2007 50-over World Cup in Port of Spain.

"I have forgotten about that match but you guys always make me remember. Yes, we have had some memorable matches against India. I believe if we play to our potential, there is every possibility of beating India. We have defeated them in 50-over format last year and there is no reason we can't repeat that in 20-over format," Tamim told reporters after practice session.

Tamim is also confident that he and his teammates can tackle India's new speedster Jasprit Bumrah, who bowls with an unusual action. "We have had discussions in our team meeting about Bumrah. We have seen footages of his bowling. I have done my homework on him and let's see how it goes. "But it's not only Bumrah but every Indian player is important for us. But we would like to focus on our strength. If we get a good ball, we will respect the ball and if it needs to be punished, we will do it." He agreed that some good knocks in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has increased his confidence but it will not have a bearing on the final match.

"Any good knock gives you confidence and my performance in the PSL is no different. But on Sunday, it will be a different game and I will have to take fresh guard. But definitely aim will be to translate my good form in T20 leagues into a good performance for national team." For Tamim, T20 is a "game of two overs" which actually makes a lot of difference. "It's not the entire 20 overs that decides the fate of the match. It is those two overs somewhere, which changes the course of the match. It could be two overs, where 30 runs are scored and it becomes the difference. It can also happen in bowling where one loses four wickets in a space of two overs, which can change the game.”

Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar? Afridi’s answer will interest you

Mirpur: Pakistan failed to impress in the Asia Cup T20 cricket tournament but captain Shahid Afridi on Friday asserted that his side can deliver in the World Twenty20 later this month if they have self-belief with them.

Pakistan failed to enter the final of the Asia Cup T20 but Afridi said that they are still a good side. We're good cricketers, just that we need to have more self-belief," Afridi said when asked about his team's performance in the Asia Cup T20 and the upcoming World Twenty20.

That's what helped us in the chase today. I don't fall down easily, yes, it was tough but I'm confident the boys can deliver," Afridi said after his side beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in an inconsequential match here.

Also Read: Asia Cup: Pakistan loyal fan harassed in Bangladesh after loss. "We had to change a few things, we worked hard and it helped today. We wanted to keep wickets intact in the first six overs and it worked," he added. Afridi was happy that the reserve players were also given a chance ahead of the World T20 in India. Watch: Mock funeral for Shahid Afridi and Pakistan team. We've backed players, we did not want to tamper too many things, but the selectors have done well to give everyone a sincere opportunity," said Afridi. The all-rounder was also faced with another interesting question and his answer to it was equally interesting.

I have said this before too - no one should be compared to Sachin Tendulkar. He has been a great role model for millions of Indians and for those who follow the sport across the world. Virat has been a champion player too. He has been consistent over the years and his aggressive nature is great for the game. Both are fantastic cricketers and I wouldn't put one above other,” Afridi was quoted as saying according to a report in a leading national daily when asked how he would rate Virat Kohli vis-a-vis Sachin Tendulkar. Umar Akmal, Man-of-the-Match for his 37-ball 48, gave credit to his captain and team management for the win.

Credit to the captain, coaching staff and team management. (Coach) Waqar showed me a motivational video before the match. That fired me up. We wanted to sign off with a win, good to see some rhythm to our game before the World T20," he said. Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal said his side played some good cricket overall but injuries had impacted on their performance.

Also Read: Ashish Nehra motivated me to train for IPL: Zaheer Khan. Overall we played some good cricket. Injuries are the main issues, we haven't been able to get the best combination as a result. Hopefully players will recover in time," he said. Talking about today's match, Chandimal said, "We were 10-15 short with the bat, that was the turning point in this game. It was difficult to grip the ball with this dew."
