strikes rocked the Kashmir Valley, Prime Minister Narendra
Modi today said terrorists tried to attack Indian democracy
but brave jawans sacrificed their lives protecting the
country's security.
    The Prime Minister also paid tributes to martyrs who laid
down their lives while fighting militants.
    "Terrorists tried to attack the democracy of India. But
the brave jawans scarified their lives protecting the
country's security," he told an election rally here.
    "I pay my tributes to Jharkhand's brave son Sankalp
Kumar Shukla and other brave jawans who scarified their lives.
Sankalp Kumar Shukla's martyrdom will be remembered by future
generations in the state," he said.
    Kashmir Valley was yesterday rocked by four attacks by
militants from across the border, who stormed an army camp in
Uri leaving 11 security personnel including Lt Colonel Sankalp
Kumar dead and killed two civilians in Tral.
     The attacks and gun battles with security forces left
in all 21 people dead. Among them was a top commander of
Pakistan-based terror outfit LeT and seven militants.
    Modi, who will be holding a rally in Srinagar city on
Monday, had condemned the terror attacks as "desperate
attempts" to derail the atmosphere of hope created by the
increased voter turnout and saluted the soldiers who laid down

பர்த்வானில் இருந்து இந்த பெண்களை ரெயில் மூலம் நேற்றிரவு மும்பைக்கு கடத்த முயன்றபோது சந்தேகத்தின் பேரில் ரெயில் நிலையத்தில் இவர்களை மடக்கிப் பிடித்த போலீசார் கடத்தப்பட்ட பெண்களை மீட்டனர்.

பர்த்வான் நகரில் உள்ள மித்ரா லேன் பகுதியில் இதற்கென வாடகைக்கு வீடு பிடித்து தங்கியிருந்த வங்காள தேசத்தை சேர்ந்த பெண்களான தஸ்லிமா பேகம், சகானா பீவி, உர்மி பீவி மற்றும் இவர்களுக்கு பல வகைகளிலும் உடந்தையாக இருந்த உள்ளூர்வாசிகள் பன்ஷிதர் சாவ், இவரது மகனான சர்டனானி சாவ் ஆகியோரையும் கைது செய்த போலீசார், இன்று கோர்ட்டில் ஆஜர்படுத்தி, சிறையில் அடைத்தனர்.

சீனாவின் தலைநகரான பீஜிங் மற்றும் குவாங்ஸோ மாகாணத்தின் இடையே இரண்டாயிரத்து 298 கிலோ மீட்டர் நீளமுள்ள இருப்புப் பாதையில் அதி நவீன புல்லட் ரெயில்கள் இயக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றது.

மணிக்கு சுமார் 300 கிலோ மீட்டர் வேகத்தில் ஓடும் இந்த புல்லட் ரெயில்கள், இப்பாதையின் ஒட்டுமொத்த தூரத்தையும் எட்டே மணி நேரங்களுக்குள் கடந்து விடுவதால், உலகிலேயே மிகவும் நீளமான புல்லட் ரெயில் சேவையாக இது கருதப்படுகின்றது.

சமீபத்தில் சீனாவில் சுற்றுப்பயணம் செய்த பிரதமர் நரேந்திர மோடி, இந்தியாவின் பிற பகுதிகளையும் இத்தகையை அதிநவீன மற்றும் அதிவேக புல்லட் ரெயில்களின் மூலம் இணைக்க வேண்டும் என்று முடிவு செய்தார்.

இங்கிலாந்து நாட்டின் பாராளுமன்ற வளாகத்தில் மகாத்மா காந்தியின் சிலை அமைக்கப்படும் என்று அறிவித்த அந்நாட்டின் அரசு அதற்கான நிதியை ஒதுக்காதது குறித்து லண்டனில் வாழும் இந்திய வம்சாவளியைச் சேர்ந்த கோடீஸ்வர தொழிலதிபர் வேதனை தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இந்தியராக பிறந்து தற்போது இங்கிலாந்து நாட்டின் குடியுரிமை பெற்று லண்டனில் வாழந்து வருபவர், லார்ட் சுவராஜ் பால்(83). அந்த நாட்டின் பெரும் தொழிலதிபராகவும், கொடையாளராகவும் இருக்கும் இவர், இங்குள்ள இரண்டு பிரபல பல்கலைக்கழக்ங்களின் வேந்தராகவும் பொறுப்பு வகித்து வருகிறார்.

இந்த அரசாங்கம் மற்ற எவ்வளவோ விவகாரங்களுக்கு ஏராளமான தொகையை வீணாக செலவிடுகின்றது. ஆனால், ரத்தம் சிந்தாமல் ஒரு நாட்டின் விடுதலையை வென்றெடுக்க முடியும் என்ற உண்மையை உலக வரலாற்றுக்கு முதன்முதலில் உணர்த்திய ஒரு மனிதரின் (காந்தி) சிலைக்கு 10 லட்சம் பவுண்டுகளை செலவழிக்க தயக்கம் காட்டுகிறது.

எனக்கிருக்கும் வருத்தம் எல்லாம் என்னவென்றால்.., ஒருவருக்கு எதையுமே அன்பளிப்பாக கொடுக்காமல் அதற்கு நீங்கள் ஏதாவது தர முடியுமா? என்று கேட்பது போல் இங்கிலாந்து அரசு நடந்துக் கொள்கிறதே என்பதுதான்.

இந்த நிலையில் பாராளுமன்ற வளாகத்தில் மகாத்மா காந்தியின் சிலை வைக்கப்படும் என்ற அறிவிப்பை இந்தியாவுக்கு சென்றபோது வெளியிட்டது ஏன்? அந்த அறிவிப்புக்கு பின்னணியில் இருந்தது என்ன? என்னும் எனது கேள்விக்கு யாராவது (இங்கிலாந்து அரசு தரப்பில் இருந்து) பதில் சொல்ல வேண்டும்.

அந்த அறிப்பின் பின்னணியில் இருந்தவர்கள் இதற்கு பதில் சொல்லியே தீர வேண்டும். ஆனால், இதற்கான மிகவும் எளிமையான பதில் எனக்கு தெரியும். இந்தியாவை திருப்திப்படுத்துவதற்காகவே அந்த அறிவிப்பு வெளியிடப்பட்டது.

ஆனால், இந்த அறிவிப்பை வெளியிட்டபோது அவர்களுக்கு இருந்த மகிழ்ச்சி, இந்த சிலையை அமைக்க நாம்தான் செலவு செய்தாக வேண்டும் என்று அறிந்த வேளையில் காணாமல் போய்விட்டது.

இவ்வாறு அந்த பேட்டியில் அவர் கூறியுள்ளார்.

Thane, Nov 18 (PTI) A senior clerk posted at Vasai
Virar Municipal Corporation was caught red-handed while
allegedly accepting bribe here, Anti Corruption Bureau
officials said today.

    Senior clerk Sandeep Anant Khanivdekar (45) had
demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant for
transfer of name in a property tax matter, which was to be
paid in instalments and the first instalment of Rs 10,000 was
to be handed over yesterday, SP, Thane ACB Datta Karale said.

    ACB sleuths laid a trap at the Kaman division office
of the Corporation last evening and nabbed Khanivdekar taking
Rs 10,000 as bribe, he said.

    A case has been registered against the officer in this
regard under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption
Act.
    Further probe into the matter is on, officials said.

அருணாசலப்பிரதேசம் மாநிலம், பப்பும் பாரே மாவட்டத்தை சேர்ந்த ஒரு ரவுடி கும்பல்  இங்குள்ள டெங்காம்பாரி பகுதியில் வியாபாரம் செய்து வரும் சிறு வணிகர்கள் முதல் பெரும் தொழிலதிபர்கள் வரை அனைவரையும் மிரட்டி மாமூல் வாங்குவதையே தொழிலாக செய்து வந்தது.

அரசு துறையினர் நில ஆர்ஜிதம் செய்ய ‘நோட்டீஸ்’ அனுப்புவது போலவே, சுழற்சி முறையில், ‘நீங்கள் இன்ன தேதியில் எங்களுக்கு இவ்வளவு தொகையை தர வேண்டும்’ என்று இந்த தாதாக்கள் ’எச்சரிக்கை நோட்டீஸ்’ அனுப்புவார்கள்.

இதன் மூலம், இந்த கும்பல் பல ஆயிரம் முதல் சில லட்சங்கள் வரை மாதந்தோறும் சம்பாதித்து வந்ததாக கூறப்படுகிறது. பணம் தர மறுப்பவர்களை குடும்பத்தோடு தீர்த்துகட்டி விடுவோம் என இவர்கள் மிரட்டுவதால் அனைவரும் வாயை மூடிக் கொண்டு ‘மாமூலை’ தந்துவிடுவதுண்டு.

பரேலியில் நடைபெற்ற ஒரு ஆன்மிக நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு அந்த வேனில் இருந்தவர்கள் சென்றுக் கொண்டிருந்ததாகவும், மொராடாபாத் மாவட்டத்துக்குட்பட்ட தினகர்பூர்-குண்டர்கி சாலை வழியே சென்றபோது எதிர் திசையில் இருந்து வைக்கோல் சுமை ஏற்றியபடி வேகமாக வந்த லாரி அந்த வேனின் மீது மோதியதில் 30 முதல் 50 வயதுக்குட்பட்ட 10 பெண்கள் உள்பட 12 பேர் சம்பவ இடத்திலேயே பலியானதாகவும் போலீசார் தெரிவித்தனர்.

இந்த விபத்தில் காயமடைந்தவர்களை ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் அனுமதித்து, பிடிபட்ட லாரி டிரைவரிடம் போலீசார் விசாரித்து வருகின்றனர்.

அந்தப் படுகொலைக்குப்பிறகு சீக்கியர்களுக்கு எதிராக நாடு முழுவதும் வன்முறை வெறியாட்டங்கள் நடந்தன. இதில் 3,325 சீக்கியர்கள் பலியாகினர். ஆயிரக்கணக்கானவர்கள் காயமடைந்தனர். அவர்களுக்கு சொந்தமான பலநூறு கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்புள்ள சூறையாடி, சேதப்படுத்தப்பட்டன.

சீக்கியர்களுக்கு எதிரான இந்த சம்பவம் நிகழ்ந்து சுமார் 30 ஆண்டு கழித்த நிலையில் அமெரிக்காவில் உள்ள ‘சீக்கியர்களுக்கான நீதி’  [Sikhs For Justice (SFJ)] என்ற மனித உரிமை அமைப்பினர் மற்றும் அந்த கலவரங்களினால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு தற்போது அமெரிக்காவில் வாழும் இருவர் இணைந்து ‘1984ம் ஆண்டு நிகழ்ந்த கலவரத்தின் போது சீக்கியர்களுக்கு ஏற்பட்ட இழப்புக்கு காங்கிரஸ் தலைவர் சோனியா காந்தி இழப்பீடு வழங்க வேண்டும்’ என நியூயார்க் கிழக்கு மாவட்ட கோர்ட்டில் வழக்கு தொடர்ந்துள்ளனர்.

இது தொடர்பாக பதில் அளிக்குமாறு சோனியாவுக்கு அமெரிக்க கோர்ட் சம்மன் அனுப்பியிருந்தது, நினைவிருக்கலாம்.

இந்நிலையில், ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபையின் பாதுகாப்பு சபையில் இடம்பெற விரும்பும் இந்தியா சுமார் 3 ஆயிரம் சீக்கியர்கள் படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்ட கலவர வழக்கில் வெறும் 30 பேர் மீது மட்டும் சட்டப்படி நடவடிக்கை எடுத்துள்ளதாகவும், கலவரத்துக்கு காரணமான காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியினரையும், முன்னாள் அரசு அதிகாரிகளையும் இந்திய அரசு பாதுகாத்து வருவதாகவும் சீக்கியர்களுக்கான நீதி அமைப்பு குற்றம்சாட்டியுள்ளது.

திட்டமிடப்பட்ட இந்த படுகொலைகள் விவகாரத்தில், தலையிட்டு கலவரத்தின்போது பலியான மற்றும் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட சீக்கியர்களுக்கு உரிய நீதி கிடைக்க உதவிடுமாறு அமெரிக்க அதிபர் பராக் ஒபாமாவுக்கு அந்த அமைப்பினர் நேற்று கடிதம் எழுதியுள்ளனர்.

Death toll in Pak suicide attack at Wagah Border rises to 61

Lahore, Nov 3 (PTI) The death toll in the horrific
suicide attack that shook Pakistan minutes after the popular
flag-lowering ceremony at Wagah climbed to 61 today, even as
security agencies arrested about 20 suspects from the Indo-Pak
border area.
    Ten women, eight children and three security personnel
were among the 61 people who have died in the attack that took
place yesterday when a suicide attacker detonated a powerful
bomb at Wagah.
    Over 100 people were injured in the incident and are
being treated in different Lahore's hospitals where emergency
has been declared.
    The blast took place when a large number of people were
returning after attending the flag lowering ceremony at the
main Indo-Pak land border crossing, which is heavily guarded
by the Punjab Rangers.
    A young suicide-bomber blew himself up near the main exit
gate of Parade Avenue at 6.03 pm (local time), causing
colossal devastation.
    "The death toll of the devastating suicide attack at
Wagah border has risen to 61. The condition of some injured is
still critical and the doctors are battling to save their
lives," Punjab Emergency Services Rescue spokesman Jam Sajjad
told PTI.
    About 43 bodies have been handed over to the families
while the remaining are yet to be recognised, Sajjad said.
    "We have sought the help of the National Registration
Database Authority (Nadra) for recognition of 18 bodies," he
said.
    The law enforcement agencies have launched operation in
the residential areas in Wagah and taken about 20 suspects
into custody, Lahore police spokesman Niyab Haider Naqvi said.
    "A joint investigation team of police, rangers and
intelligence agencies have started its probe into the
incident. The army and rangers along with police will provide
security to Ashura processions in Lahore and they have been
put on high alert in the wake of Sunday's attack," he said.
    Punjab Interior Minister Col (Retd) Shujah Khanzada said
the target of the suicide bomber was the venue of the flag
hoisting ceremony.
    "The suicide-bomber wanted to reach the Parade Avenue to
cause maximum devastation but he blew himself up near the
entrance of the main gate after failing to reach the Parade
Avenue," he said.
    At least three militant factions have claimed the grizzly
bombing. Al-Qaeda affiliated militant group Jundullah, a
splinter group of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), was
first to claim responsibility of the attack.
    Shortly afterwards Jamaat-ul-Ahrar said its bomber Hafiz
Hanifullah carried out the attack. Later, a lesser-known Mahar
Mehsud group also claimed responsibility for the bombing.

The Islamic State group has beheaded Steven Joel Sotloff

The Islamic State group has beheaded Steven Joel Sotloff, the second American executed by the Islamic militant group, and posted a video of it on the Internet, the SITE Intelligence group, a research organization that tracks jihadist web postings, said Tuesday.

The execution of Sotloff, 31, came despite pleas from his mother aimed directly at the Islamic State's top leader seeking mercy for her son, a freelance journalist who was captured in northern Syria a year ago.

Word of Sotloff's beheading came two weeks after James Foley, 45, another American journalist, was beheaded by the Islamic State group, which warned back then that Sotloff
 would be the next to die.

In the latest video, Sotloff describes himself as "paying the price" for the Obama administration's decision to strike Islamic State targets in Iraq. The same masked fighter who appeared in the Foley beheading also appears beside Sotloff, asserting, "I'm back, Obama, and I'm back because of your arrogant foreign policy towards the Islamic State."

The SITE Intelligence Group also said the Islamic State group was threatening a third captive, a Briton it identified David Cawthorne Haines, as the next beheading victim.

At least two other Americans are believed to be held by the Islamic State group.

Cocaine worth Rs 8 crore seized

Kolkata, Aug 25 (PTI) Army jawans have seized cocaine
worth approximately Rs 8 crore in Manipur and caught two
civilians, officials said today.
    Based on a specific input received from the Narcotics
Control Bureau (NCB), troops of the Red Shield Division
launched a joint operation in Churachandpur town and seized a
consignment of 1.5 kg of cocaine on August 20, an Army
communique said.
    Two persons - Paolun Simte, 58, and Khaijapau, 65, -
were apprehended by the jawans in the case.
    In another case, the tropps apprehended a People
Liberation Army (PLA) cadre from general area Torbung Bazar in
Churachandpur today, it said.

ஸ்காட்லாந்து தலைநகர் ஆம்ஸ்டர்டாமில் இருந்து கோலாலம்பூருக்கு கடந்த மாதம் 17–ந் தேதி வந்து கொண்டிருந்த மலேசிய விமானம் ஒன்று கிழக்கு உக்ரைன் பகுதியில் வந்த போது ரஷிய ஆதரவு கிளர்ச்சியாளர்களால் சுட்டு வீழ்த்தப்பட்டது. இந்த சம்பவத்துக்கு ரஷியாவும் பின்னணியில் இருப்பதாக உலக நாடுகள் குற்றம் சாட்டி வருகின்றன. இந்த சம்பவம் நடந்த போது ரஷிய அதிபர் புதினின் மகள் மரியா, தனது ஆண் நண்பர் ஜோரிட் பாசனுடன் ஸ்காட்லாந்தின் வூர்ஸ்காட்டன் பகுதியில்தான் வசித்து வந்தார். ஆனால் விமானம் சுட்டு வீழ்த்தப்பட்ட சம்பவத்துக்குப்பின் மரியாவுக்கு எதிராக ‘டுவிட்டர்’ சமூவ வலைத்தளத்தில் பல்வேறு கண்டனங்கள் எழுந்தன. மேலும் அவர் நாட்டை விட்டு வெளியேற வேண்டுமென கண்டன போராட்டங்களும் நடந்தன.

எனவே மரியா, தனது ஆண் நண்பருடன் ஸ்காட்லாந்தை விட்டு வெளியேறிவிட்டார். ஆனால் அவர் வாழ்ந்து வந்த பகுதியில் உள்ள மக்கள், மரியாவுக்கு ஆதரவாக கருத்து தெரிவித்து இருந்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

பூக்கள் வாடுவதை தடுக்கும் வழி

காண்போரின் மனதை கொள்ளையடிக்கும் வகை வகையான பூக்கள், குறுகிய நேரத்தில் வாடி விடுகின்றன. இதனால் அந்த மலர்களை சூடும் மங்கையரின் முகமும் வாடுகின்றன. பல்வேறு வகையான விலை உயர்ந்த மலர்களால் தயாரிக்கப்படும் பூங்கொத்துகளும் விரைவில் வாடுவதால் வியாபார ரீதியிலும் நஷ்டத்தை ஏற்படுத்துகின்றன. ஆனால் பூக்கள் வாடுவதை தடுப்பதற்கான வழிமுறை ஒன்றை ஜப்பான் ஆய்வாளர்கள் கண்டு பிடித்துள்ளனர்.  டோக்கியோவின் கிழக்குப்பகுதியான சுகுபாவில் அமைந்துள்ள தேசிய வேளாண்மை மற்றும் உணவுப்பொருள் ஆய்வு நிறுவனத்தை சேர்ந்த விஞ்ஞானிகள், அங்கு பூத்து குலுங்கும் ‘மார்னிங் குளோரி’ எனப்படும் ஒருவகையான மலரை ஆய்வு செய்தனர்.

அப்போது மலர்கள் வாடுவதற்கு ஒருவகையான மரபணுதான் காரணம் என கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது. எனவே இந்த மரபணுவை அடக்குவதன் மூலம், மலர்களின் ஆயுட்காலத்தை இரு மடங்காக உயர்த்த முடியும் என்பதையும் அந்த விஞ்ஞானிகள் கண்டறிந்துள்ளனர். 

Indian ships joins operation to locate the missing Malaysia Airlines plane

New Delhi:  Two Indian ships from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands were today deployed to locate the missing Malaysia Airlines plane that disappeared from radar screens last Saturday, nearly an hour after it took off from Kuala Lumpur. The Defence Ministry has also ordered that more aircraft and helicopters will be deployed for the search operation that involves a dozen countries. India's latest long-range maritime reconnaissance planes, Boeing P 8i, will also join the search.

India is likely to begin looking for the aircraft in the area east of Campbell Bay. Air Marshal PK Roy, Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman Nicobar Command will coordinate the operations.

On Wednesday, a Dornier aircraft belonging to India's coastguard set off to search the eastern side of the Andaman Islands, but found nothing.

The Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777, with 239 people on board, vanished from air traffic control screens midway between Malaysia's east coast and Vietnam. Its fate remains a mystery and no wreckage has been identified.

The search involves a dozen countries and has been widened to the Andaman Sea, to the west of the Malaysian peninsula. US investigators suspect that the aircraft flew for some four hours after its last confirmed location, the Wall Street Journal reported. But Malaysia's Transport Minister has said the reports are not true

Cuban Spy Set to Be Released from U.S. Prison

A Cuban intelligence officer convicted of spying in the United States was set to be released from federal prison on Thursday after serving around 15 years.

Fernando Gonzalez, 50, a member of the so-called Cuban Five, will be released and is expected to return to Cuba in a few days, the Spanish-language El Nuevo Herald reported.

Gonzalez and fellow members of the spy ring -- that was also known as the Miami Five -- were arrested in 1998. The Cuban government eventually acknowledged that they targeted anti-Cuban government exile groups in the United States but denied they spied on American interests. All five were convicted of spying on U.S. military installations.

One member of the group, Gerardo Hernandez, was charged with conspiracy to murder after he gathered information on Brothers to the Rescue, a Cuban exile group that dropped anti-government leaflets on Cuba. Four members of Brothers to the Rescue died in 1996 after their two planes were shot down by the Cuban air force.

Rene Gonzalez, another member of the jailed group, was released in 2011. Ramon Labanino and Antonio Guerrero remain in prison.

BJP leaders meet Paswan

New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI) Senior BJP leaders today met LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan here to finalise details related to their alliance and possibly sharing of seats.

     BJP leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Shahnawaz Hussain went to Paswan's residence where they were received by his son Chirag Paswan, who is strongly batting for the tie-up.

     Significantly, the meeting took place on a day BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is here and there was speculation that Paswan would meet him.

     Modi held a separate meeting with BJP chief Rajnath Singh.

     The meeting came a day after LJP gave clear hints about allying with BJP after their Parliamentary Board meeting.

  To a question whether LJP will tie-up with BJP, Chirag Paswan had said that "all options are now open for the LJP".

     "LJP Parliamentary Board has passed a resolution that all steps, even if they are strong ones, should be taken in the

interest of the party and if an alternative alliance is to be firmed up, party chief Ram Vilas Paswan should take the

decision", said Chirag Paswan, who heads the Parliamentary Board.

      BJP leaders had also said yesterday that the talks on alliance were at an advanced stage.

Sources said the two parties are engaged in negotiations over the sharing of seats in Bihar.

Prasad later said the meeting was "good" and they had shared "sweets".

     He praised Paswan, saying he is a "senior" leader not only of Bihar but the entire country.

     "We have worked together during Atal Bihari Vajpayee government," the BJP leader recalled.

Paswan's brother Ram Chandra Paswan said the "distance between BJP and LJP has come to an end on poll alliance" in Bihar.

BAGHDAD:Police and medical sources says

Police and medical sources say a suicide car bomber rammed his vehicle into a security checkpoint in a crowded area in southern Iraq, killing 32 persons.

The checkpoint blast at the entrance to the city of Hilla also wounded 40 other people.

“Some of the victims were burned inside their cars,” a police officer said.

The Shia-dominated city is located about 95 kilometers south of Baghdad.

Iraq has seen a spike in violence since last April, with the death toll climbing to its highest levels since the worst of the country's sectarian bloodletting in 2006-2008.

Murli Manohar Joshi denies rift over Narendra Modi and his seat in UP

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi today dismissed reports of a rift in the party over who will contest from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, calling it a "media creation".

The remarks come after Dr Joshi, according to sources, confronted BJP chief Rajnath Singh over media reports that the party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi could contest the general elections from the said seat. The veteran leader is the sitting MP from Varanasi.

"The decision is taken by parliamentary board and the meeting will take place on 13th... every disciplined soldier accepts it... I will say what I have to in front of the board," the 80-year-old said.

Sources say Dr Joshi, at a meeting of the BJP's Central Election Committee yesterday, had quoted media reports on the controversy over Varanasi to ask Mr Singh why the party, if there was no decision on the matter, had not issued a clarification.

"The party would take a decision which will neither dent the prestige of our PM candidate nor compromise the party's winning chances," he said today.

The temple town had recently been awash with posters of Dr Joshi amidst a strong buzz that his party could pick Mr Modi as its nominee from Varanasi. The posters, which were later pulled down due to the model code of conduct, were widely viewed as a counter by Dr Joshi's supporters to that possibility. Dr Joshi is reportedly not inclined to surrender his seat.
